When designing a kitchen, we at TATHAASTU consider several important factors to ensure a functional & aesthetically pleasing space.
1. Layout and Workflow : Consider the kitchen work triangle, which connects the three main work areas-sink, stove, and refrigerator-in an efficient triangular pattern. Keep the distance between these areas optimal for ease of movement.
2. Storage : Plan sufficient storage space for cookware, utensils, and food items. Include cabinets, drawers, pantry, and shelving that suit your needs. Think about organizing systems and accessories to maximize storage efficiency.
3. Countertop Space : Allocate ample countertop space for food preparation, cooking, and other tasks. A minimum of 36 inches (91 cm) of uninterrupted countertop next to appliances and at least 15 inches (38 cm) on one side of the sink are recommended.
4. Lighting : Incorporate a combination of ambient, task, and accent lighting. Ensure sufficient general lighting for the entire kitchen, task lighting for specific work areas, and accent lighting to enhance the overall atmosphere.
5. Ventilation : Install a ventilation system, such as a range hood, to remove smoke, odors, and moisture from cooking. Proper ventilation helps maintain air quality and prevents the buildup of grease and grime.
Types of Kitchen Layout
1. Galley Kitchen : Also known as a corridor kitchen, this layout features two parallel countertops with a walkway in between. It is efficient for small spaces and provides a straightforward workflow.
2. L-shaped Kitchen : This layout forms an "L" shape with countertops on two adjacent walls. It offers good flexibility and is suitable for both small and larger kitchens.
3. U-shaped Kitchen : With countertops on three adjacent walls, this layout creates a U shape. It provides ample storage and countertop space, ideal for larger kitchens or those used by multiple people simultaneously.
4. Island Kitchen : This layout includes a freestanding counter or island in the center, which can serve as additional workspace, storage, or a dining area. It works well for spacious kitchens.
5. Peninsula Kitchen : Similar to an island, a peninsula extends from a wall or the main countertop, offering additional workspace and storage. It's a great option when an island cannot be accommodated due to space constraints.
Color schemes for kitchens
1. Neutral tones : Such as white, beige, gray, or cream. They create a clean and timeless look, while also providing a sense of openness and versatility.
2. Bold colors : Vibrant hues like red, blue, green, or yellow can add a pop of personality and create an energetic atmosphere. They work well as accent colors or in moderation.
3. Earthy tones : Earthy shades like brown, tan, or green can bring a warm and organic feel to the kitchen. These colors are often used in rustic or farmhouse-style kitchens.
4. Monochromatic Schemes : Using different shades of a single color can create a sophisticated and cohesive look. For example, varying shades of gray can give a modern and sleek appearance.
